4 Tips to Sustainably Care for Your Child's Clothing

At Infantium Victoria, our commitment to ethically produced, sustainable clothing is the cornerstone of our brand. We choose organic fibers and a dying process that uses as little water as possible, carefully monitoring each step we take.

However, once our garments leave our shop, we have little control over their afterlife. It is our hope that our garments will be treasured and cared for as long as possible, becoming heirloom pieces that can be passed down from one generation to the next.

With that in mind, here are 4 tips to help you care for your child's wardrobe in the most responsible way possible:

1. Wash your child's clothing only when absolutely necessary and avoid harsh detergents and bleach, which are skin irritants and harmful to the environment. We use Klok or Sonnet soap, which are eco-friendly and make dirt disappear like rain before the sun!

2. Line-dry your clothing. Dryers are energy-intensive and UV light of the sun has naturally anti-microbial powers that will remove the most stubborn stains, such as bilirubin (you cloth diapering mamas will know what I mean)!

3. Size up when buying clothing for children. Dresses like our Paper Doll dress in blue can easily transition into a tunic when a child grows taller. Once children leave the diaper stage, many size 2T bottoms can be worn as pedal pushers, shorts, and even bloomers. Our Bermuda pants are extremely versatile in this regard!

4. Get out the needle and thread. A simple repair is often all that is needed to give new life to a favourite garment. If your Infantium Victoria threads need a new button, just shoot us an email and we'll gladly supply a new one!
